This job is temporary for up to 11 months to cover maternity leave.

Improving the achievement of our Children and Young people in care is a key priority within the Children & Young People Plan.  The Virtual School is part of the Localities Service with Children & Young People and will play a pivotal role in making this happen. 

You will be working with schools to support them in improving educational outcomes for our children and young people in care and support young people who may have become disaffected with education for a variety of reasons. 

You will be expected to work with other professionals to arrange, conduct and evaluate Personal Educational Plan (PEP) meetings for Children and Young People who are in care. 

Requirements for this job: 

  • A thorough understanding of the specific needs and legal processes relating to children and young people in care;
  • An understanding of and the ability to implement the PEP process;
  • Ability to use and demonstrate these effective interventions to support pupils to raise achievement;
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy skills;
  • Ability to provide guidance regarding children who are not accessing educational provision;
  • Ability to use and interpret data and to keep these skills up to date.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time.  It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car. (Exceptions can be made for disabled applicants).           

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for this job.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
