Highfields is for adults who have a learning disability and who may have additional physical disabilities too, it is a safe, informal, friendly place for people to meet others and take part in activities that will help maintain their life skills. It also gives carers and family the chance to have some ‘me time’ and a rest.

Whilst this job is ‘Handyperson / Driver’, for this particular appointment and hours available the majority of your duties will be driving.

As a driver, you will be required to:

  • Assist when required to ensure the safe transfer of passengers to and from the vehicle at their destination and/or home.
  • Ensure that wheelchairs are clamped safely and people secured in their seats in accordance with the Code of Practice.
  • Liaise with the Manager regarding daily pick-ups and routes to be travelled and advise of any concerns and difficulties.
  • Comply with the Authority's instructions/check list for daily maintenance and service of vehicles.

Please note that you may be transporting service users by yourself.

Requirements for this job:

  • You must hold a full and valid driving licence - with category D1. You must also be willing to undertake and pass the Kirklees Council driving test and travel between sites using a Council vehicle.
  • Experience of home and outdoor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance e.g. working with electrical appliances.
  • Understanding of basic gardening.
