This job is based within Kirklees Youth Offending Team, a multi-agency team which works with young people, subject to Court Orders, and their families. The main duties include:

  • Developing intervention programmes for young people on an individual or group basis both within the community and in custody.
  • Carrying out full assessments and reviews regarding young peoples’ criminogenic needs, risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Working closely with the families and carers, sometimes within Local Authority Care Homes, of young people under the supervision of the Youth Offending Team.
  • Preparation of reports for a variety of settings including pre-sentence reports for the Courts.
  •  Representation of the service within the Courts and at meetings with other organisations.
  • Working with victim services to promote a restorative approach.
  • Close liaison with other agencies and services including those within the Criminal Justice System, Health and Education Services and Social Care.

You must hold a HCPC recognised Social Work Qualification and be registered with the HCPC or able to provide evidence that registration is in progress and experience of working within Youth Justice is also essential.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time.  It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car. (Exceptions can be made for disabled applicants).
