Are you caring and compassionate with a real desire to make a difference for migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and local communities? Kirklees Council is looking for a Migration and Refugee Project Officer to support the Strategic Migration and Refugee Manager in the development and delivery of the Controlling Migration Fund, Syrian Resettlement Programme and Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Programme. By developing and sustaining strong working relationships with elected members, senior officers, partner agencies and at times, central government and regional partners, you will be instrumental in supporting the development of local policy on migration and refugee resettlement.

Our service seeks to ensure that vulnerable individuals, seeking sanctuary, are able to access support available to them from various providers, whether it is local government or partners in the voluntary and faith sector. We understand that the majority of the support available to asylum seekers and refugees is provided by our fantastic voluntary, community and faith sector, and are seeking to appoint a Project Officer to support and maintain strong working partnerships with these organisations as well as Council Services and wider partner organisations.

If successful, you will have day to day responsibility for key areas of the local migration and refugee resettlement delivery plan, coordination and management of activities, ensuring partners are working together effectively to deliver projects on budget and to timescales. You will lead on the development of key communication channels and on a migration training and awareness raising programme. You will establish and lead multi-agency meetings as and when needed around key theme areas.

To be considered for this job you must have experience of working or volunteering in an area directly associated with migration, asylum dispersal or refugee resettlement, experience of project management, and have an awareness of issues facing local government and initiatives such as We’re Kirklees. If you have an analytical, proactive approach to problem solving and are an effective communicator this may be the job for you. You will be required to write clear and concise reports and have an understanding of financial systems and procedures to support resource allocation.
