Responsible to the Risk & Insurance Manager, the Principal Risk & Insurance Officer will contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, professional risk and insurance support service to our customers. This includes assisting with the identification of insurable risks and the placing of appropriate insurances together with the management of claims, by both internal claims handlers and insurers

Requirements of the job:

  • Hold a recognised professional insurance or legal qualification, or equivalent, or an ability to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge through relevant work experience
  • Proven relevant experience in an insurance company/legal/claims handling/broking practice or in managing insurances on behalf of a large corporate body
  • Proven experience of analysing data and presenting detailed evaluation for consideration by management.
  • Understanding of the insurance renewals processes
  • Understanding of the principles underlying setting premiums and underwriting risks
  • Willingness to learn about the Council’s insurance strategy and undertake relevant training
  • You will be expected to carry out your duties in line with the Council’s policies, statutory and financial procedures and relevant legislation.
