Kirklees Catering Service provides high quality catering services to 176 schools, extra care schemes and commercial premises throughout Kirklees and other local authorities. The catering service employs in excess of 900 staff and has a turnover of approximately 20M per annum

An opportunity has arisen for a talented, passionate and enthusiastic Business Development Chef to drive forward our menu concept, design and direction.

You will develop the culinary direction of a continually evolving brand to deliver innovation through menu development. You must have strong craft skills and knowledge of modern food trends with the imagination to bring ideas and concepts to life, as well as having the financial acumen to make sure sales and profit margins are achieved

You will need to have a warm friendly genuine character to help build trust and buy in from the teams, building strong relationships as a key part of the role will involve undertaking culinary workshops to support the development of our workforce.

You will support tender processes from site visits and tender presentations, through to supporting the mobilisation of new contracts

Main Responsibilities

Prepare and present food presentations and culinary workshops to our chefs and clients

Present with confidence on all aspects of our food offer and demonstrate thorough knowledge of Nutritional standards and all appropriate government guidelines

Produce food concepts and recipes which demonstrate flair and imagination which also takes into account the diversity of cuisine, food trends, and fresh locally sourced sustainable ingredients.

Exceptionally high standards of food quality, health & hygiene and food safety practices. 

Knowledge and understanding of the hospitality sector, specifically the schools sector.

A professional attitude which also promotes a fun culture driven approach to motivate individuals and teams to develop their culinary knowledge.

Researching skills and an eye for detail which support food creativity and innovation.

Interpret, analyse and report on food costs to minimise waste and maintain portion control in ways that maximise efficiency and maintain gross profit.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have an impressive background with the catering industry with multi-site experience gained within busy commercial and customer facing operations

Experience in planning, facilitating and organising culinary workshops and food demonstrations

Knowledge with current Allergen legislation and dietary guidance

Strong communication skills, both written and oral including computer skills (Word, Excel, PPT, Publisher)

Excellent organisational, presentation and research skills.

Have a proven track record in delivering results through teams.

Ability to motivate, enthuse, and inspire

Strong financial & commercial acumen with previous responsibility for budgets/GP Margins monitoring, and financial planning knowledge

Driven, self-motivated, and sales, service, and standards focused with strong leadership skills and an inspirational approach that enables you to motivate people


Government pension scheme

Requirements of the Job

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced Food Hygiene is essential.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral including computer skills (Word, Excel, PPT, Publisher

  • Willingness to travel is essential; therefore a full clean driving licence is essential.

This is a permanent position working 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday with occasional weekend and evening working to support business needs
