At Kirklees Council we are on an improvement journey. We’re honest that we still have a way to go, but we have a real determination and a clear focus on what needs to be done.
Our new partnership with Leeds City Council, a national Partner in Practice, is flourishing and has added strength and stability to the way we work. Our excellent new leadership team has a wealth of experience and know what it takes to plan and deliver change. Our most recent Ofsted monitoring visit noted ’Morale is much improved and social workers are better engaged. Social workers report that support is more readily available and that senior leaders are approachable.’
You will ensure that the Council’s foster carers provide care to looked after children to a standard that meets and where possible exceeds our legal and statutory responsibilities.
You will take responsibility for chairing annual and additional reviews of all foster parents in line with practice and principles within policies, procedures, national guidelines and legislation. You will use your independence, professional experience and expertise to manage the processes and your interpersonal skills to challenge and commend practice. You will ensure any recommendations made at the review are actioned.
A significant part of your role will be to provide advice and scrutiny to practitioners and training where gaps have been identified; your communication skills and ability to challenge constructively will be key to this. It is vital you are able to remain independent and objective when assessing social work practice and cases.
An experienced Social Work qualified and HCPC registered professional with relevant experience we expect you to be a role model of professional standards. You’ll understand Ofsted requirements in terms of Fostering and Care Planning for looked after children and young people. You’ll have the support of a Service Manager and access to great CPD.
