Kirklees Supply Service

KSS currently recruits supply teachers, nursery officers, business support staff and educational teaching assistants and provides a one-stop service for schools and nurseries needing supply cover. KSS works in partnership with schools, teachers unions and the local authority and has a 99.5% success rate in filling requests for supply cover, and in 2011 was awarded the DfE Quality Mark.

KSS endeavours to be an ethical service providing staff with pay rates in line with national and local conditions of service, training and development opportunities and support for individual career aspirations. 

KSS wants to hear from individuals who would like to work on a supply basis in Kirklees schools who:

  • Have required status, experience or qualifications for the post you are applying for
  • Have experience in the last 3 years in the relevant post
  • Be available to provide cover for more than one school/setting

DBS Disclosure Application

You will be required to complete a DBS disclosure which is not available online. Please contact the KSS office to arrange a time to do this and provide the required original ID documents.

Supply teachers

Expectations of KSS staff:

  • Maintain high levels of professionalism at all times
  • Be prepared - especially if supply dates are known in advance
  • Be polite and courteous at all times
  • Keep KSS staff up to date with any changes to circumstances
  • Mark any work in line with the schools policy and practice
  • Understand and demonstrate attributes and characteristics required

Becoming a supply teacher on the KSS register:

Newly qualified teachers

Kirklees Supply Service have well-established procedures for supporting inductions into teaching where possible by:

  • Having close links with the School Improvement Officers for NQTs
  • Issuing a flyer to NQTs with contact details of who to approach for support of any kind with their induction
  • Maintaining regular contact with NQTs and monitoring their progress
  • Asking for copies of their induction assessments and using them to identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Providing continuous professional development training
  • Encouraging schools to take NQTs

Supply business support officers

Supply business support officers are required to provide administrative support to the school under the direction of the headteacher and/or administrative officer. Key responsibility areas are:

  • Finance
  • Administration
  • General duties which may be required to fulfil role

Supply nursery officers

Supply nursery officers for work in schools, children's centres and nursery schools require you to be qualified to NNEB or hold other relevant childcare qualifications or training to level 3. If you have previous experience of working in a childcare role and would like to register with KSS please contact the KSS office for an application pack or download:

Educational teaching assistants

Educational teaching assistants should be able to work as part of a team to support the learning and welfare of pupils in schools. Particular emphasis will be on working with the individual pupils and small groups. Experience of working with children and young people in a school environment and knowledge of the national curriculum are essential.

Network meetings and courses

We have a limited number of free spaces available on networks for our supply staff and also some courses may be available to you at a reduced rate. If there are any you would interested in attending, please email us with details and we will look into this for you:
